Registration opened for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test 2021-22

Jawahar Navodaya Vidvalaya is group of boarding public schools established almost all districts of the country with the vision To provide good quality modern education including a strong component of culture, inculcation of value, awareness of the environment, adventure activities and physical education to the talented children predominantly from the rural areas without regard to their family’s socio-economic conditions’.  The schools are run and monitored by Navodaya Vidyalaya Smiti, New Delhi, which is an autonomous body under the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India now know as Ministry of Education.  These schools are affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education for the students of class VI to XII with the medium of instruction English/Hindi/Regional Language.

Admission Policy to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya every year admits boys and girls in class VI and IX on the basis of Selection Test, designed and conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. The test is known as Jawahar Navodayay Vidyalaya Selection Test in short (JNVST). It is non-verbal nature, class-neutral and designed to ensure that talented children from rural areas are able to compete without facing any disadvantage. Special care is taken to ensure that children from far flung area apply for admission free of cost without any difficulty. Publicity for admission in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is done through Doordarshan on TV, All India Radio, Local news papers, Pamphlets and Schools website.  Candidates can visit respective schools for more information on the admission procedure.

Eligibility for Admission to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Class VI

1.   Only candidates from the district where Vidyalaya located are eligible to apply for admission. However in the district where the school opened and bifurcated at a later stage, the old boundaries of the district are considered for the purposed of eligibility of the candidates for admission in JNVs. This also applies to cases where new Vidyalaya has not yet been started in the newly bifurcated district.

2.    Candidates appearing for the selection test must be studying in Class V for the entire academic session in a Government/Government-Aided, other recognized school or ‘B’ Certificate Competency Course of National Institute of Open Schooling, in the same district where candidate seeks admission. A school will deemed to have been recognized if it is declared so by the Government or by any other agency authorized on behalf of the Government.  Schools, where students have obtained ‘B’ certificate under National Institute of Open Schooling should have accreditation of NIOS.  A candidate has successfully complete Class V.  Actual admission in Class VI will be subject to these conditions.

3.   Age of candidates for Class VI should be within the age group of 9 to 13 years (Date of birth between 01 May 2008 to 30 Apr 2012). This is applicable to candidates of all categories, including those who belong to the Schedules Casts (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST).

4.    A candidate claiming admission from rural quota must have studied and passed Class III, IV and V from a Govt/Govt-Aided/ recognized school spending one full academic session each year in a school located in a rural area.

5.    A candidate who has studied in a school located in an urban area even for a single day of the session in any of the Class III, IV and V will be considered as an urban area candidate. Urban areas are those, which are notified in the 2011 Census or through a subsequent Government Notification.  All other areas will be considered as rural.

6.    Candidates who has not been promoted and admitted to Class V before 30 September is not eligible to apply.

7.   Candidates can apply to appear in JNV Selection Test once only. No candidate is eligible to appear in the JNV Selection Test for a second time, under any circumstances.

Reservation for Rural, SC/ST, Girls and Disabled Children

1.    At least 75% of the total seats in a district are reserved for the candidates from rural areas and remaining seats will be filled up by the candidates from the urban area of the district.

2.    There is a provision for reservation of seats for SC and ST candidates in proportion to their population in the district but not less than the national average (15%SC and 7.5% ST) but the maximum of 50% for both the categories (SC & ST) taken together.

3.    27% reservation will be provided to the OBC students over and above
reservation of SCs and STs.  The reservations to the OBC students shall be implemented as per Central List, as applicable from time to time. The OBC
candidates not included in Central list would apply as General Candidate.

4.    1/3 of the seats are reserved for the girl candidates.

5.    3% seats reserved for disabled children (ie Orthopedically Handicapped, Hearing Impaired and Visually Handicapped).

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Date of Written Exam for Class VI

According to the climate conditions of the States/Regions JNVST for admission in Class 6, scheduled to be held in the month of January 2021 & April 2021. 

In January, 2021 For the State of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh (except Dibang Valley & Tawang Districts), Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh (except Chamba, Kinnaur, Mandi, Sirmour, Kullu, Lahaul & Spiti and Shimla Districts), Jharkhand, Kerala, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tripura, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, & West Bengal (except Darjeeling), Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadar & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, Delhi, Lakshadweep and Pudducherry.

In April, 2021 For the States of Jammu and Kashmir, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Uttrakhand and in the Districts of Dibang Valley and Tawang of Arunachal Pradesh, in the Districts of Chamba, Kinnaur, Mandi, Sirmour, Kullu, Lahaul & Spiti and Shimla of Himachal Pradesh, in the District of Darjeeling of West Bengal.

Note : This year JNV Selection Test for admission to Class-VI in JNVs for the academic session 2021-22 will be held in on Saturday, the 10th April, 2021 at 11.30 A.M in one phase for all Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.

Eligibility for Admission to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Class IX

It is not necessary for all Vidyalaya to conducted admission test (JNVST) for admission in Class IX.  To optimally utilize the infrastructure and staff facilities available in the Vidyalaya, vacant seats in Class IX are filled through Lateral Entry Test. To appear in the selection test, the candidate has to fulfill the following eligibility  criteria :

1.    For admission in Class IX the candidate should be studying in Class VIII in a Govt/Govt recongised school of the district where the JNV situated.

2.    Age of candidates for Class IX should be within the age group of 13 to 16 years as on 01 May of the year in which admission is sought (Date of birth between 01 May 2005 to 30 Apr 2009). This is applicable to candidates of all categories, including those who belong to the Schedules Casts (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST).

Selection Test for admission to Class IX will be conducted on Saturday, the
13th February 2021 in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya of concerned district/
any other centre allotted by NVS.

Documents required to submitted after selection

1.    Caste Certificate belongs to SC/ST/Disabled as reserved category.

2.     Date of Birth Certificate.

3.     Permanent Residential/Domicile Certificate issued by the competent authority.

4.     For candidates seeking admission under rural quota, the parents will also have to submit certificate to the effect that the child had studied in an Institution located in a notified rural area.

5.     Aadhar Card of the Parents and candidate (Optional).

6.     Latest passport size photograph of the candidate without headgear.

7.     Signature of the candidate.

How to Apply

The process for submission of application for JNV Selection Test has been simplified through online process. Registration can be done free of cost through the admission portal of NVS linked through www.navodaya.gov.in and Navodaya.gov.in/nvs/en/Admission-JNVST/JNVST-class/. Verification of proofs for residence, age, eligibility etc. will be done for selected candidates through the laid down procedure after the declaration of results.  Apply Online.

Tuition Fee of Navodaya Vidayalaya

1.     No fee for class VI to VIII.

2.     From Class IX to XII Rs 1200/- per annum

3.     The wards of Government employees will pay s 1500/- per annum.

4.     No fee for students of SC/ST category.
